Falls within Spokane City Council District 1, the Chief Garry Park Neighborhood is one of the cornerstone neighborhoods of Spokane, rich in tradition, history, and wonderful citizens! It is located immediately south of the Spokane River. It is named for Spokane Garry and a park that has taken his name. The park dates back to 1912 when seven acres of land were purchased and set aside as a neighborhood park. It was named Chief Garry park in 1932 with an official dedication ceremony given by the Fall Festival Committee of the Spokane Advertising Club. Chief Garry Park is the principal place in the city where Chief Spokane Garry is remembered and honored. This neighborhood includes a diverse population of first time home buyers, students, retirees, and others of all ages with an active Neighborhood Council. The majority of Chief Garry Park neighborhood is a residential community. Affordable, single and multi-family housing is available, both owner occupied and leased.
